The New Common Program: What to anticipate Along with CA4

describe the image I am excited for that new Common Program (CA4)! I’ve been following all of the updates and attended the First Appear webinar, and feel looking forward to the August 1 rollout. Here are some of my favorite modifications:

  • Bravo to the folks at Typical App for creating the streamlined, user-friendly site. Complicated navigation and outdated graphics happen to be replaced by a much more intuitive system.
  • “Smart Questions” make sure that students only complete information that is relevant to their own particular applications and will not allow them to miss important questions. Since students input personal information, the prompts they will see next will depend on their solutions to previous questions.
  • Energetic formatting for text enter allows students to keep the proper formatting of their personal statements. While the old Common App converted almost all formatting to basic text when pasted from Word into the online portal, CA4 keeps students’ tabs, italics, and spacing. Students cannot upload the. doc or. pdf, but better text input makes that less essential.
  • Word limits are a MASSIVE improvement. The utmost word limit can help trainees focus application essays on succinct takeaways instead of broad or all-encompassing narratives, reducing the scope to actually connect with you.
  • Within the old version from the Common App , students might submit text that was a long time, never realizing that the excess words would not be exhibited to you. CA4 proactively notifications students when they go over the limit: an indication\ flashes, and the application cannot be posted.
  • While there is no area for uploads on CA4, students are unable to submit unsolicited pieces like résumés, research abstracts, or brief stories. Students might protest that this is essential information to incorporate in applications. The truth is, if these are relevant to a certain college’s decision-making procedure, they will ask on their behalf in the writing supplement! Keep in mind that more is not better; individual colleges ask for the actual need to create decisions that fit their own ideals.

I know some folks get lamented the removal of “topic of the choice” as one of the essay prompts, but up to now I haven’t experienced any challenges with this: the scholars who come to me having an essay idea currently in their heads have had no trouble fitting that story into one from the CA4 prompts.

We’ll be talking much more the brand new CA4 prompts henceforward blogs, therefore keep your eyes open for those articles.
